Getting there

Here are useful travel directions, whether you’re travelling by car from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth or Dundee, or whether you’re travelling by coach or train. There is also information on nearby international airports.

BY CAR

From Edinburgh (24 miles)

Assuming normal traffic conditions, the journey from Edinburgh to Polmont should take around 35 minutes.

Head west out of Edinburgh on the A8, past Ingliston and Edinburgh Airport. At Newbridge Junction, take the M9 in the direction of the Forth Road Bridge and Stirling, and then continue forward at Junction 1a following signs for Stirling and the Kincardine Bridge. Continue on the M9 until Junction 5, where you should leave the motorway and follow the A9 in the direction of Falkirk and Polmont. Follow this road until you arrive in Polmont.

From Glasgow (30 miles)

In light traffic, your journey by car from Glasgow to Polmont should take about 35 minutes.

Take the M8 eastbound out of Glasgow, and then the M80 in the direction of Stirling and the Kincardine Bridge. Follow the M80 past Kirkintilloch, Stepps, Chryston and Cumbernauld, and at the junction with the M876, take the M876 following signs for the Kincardine Bridge and Falkirk. Then take the M9 following signs for Edinburgh. Leave the M9 at Junction 5, following signs for A904 Bo’ness, and then join the A9 following signs for Falkirk and Polmont. Follow this road until you arrive in Polmont.

From Perth (47 miles)

Your car journey from Perth to Polmont should take around 1 hour in normal traffic conditions.

Take the M90 southbound, following signs for the Forth Road Bridge and Edinburgh. Pass Kinross Service Area, and follow the M90 all the way until it becomes the A90, and cross the Forth Road Bridge, which is no longer a toll bridge. Turn left at the Echline Junction, following the A904 signposted for Bo’ness and Stirling, and then the B8046 signposted for Broxburn and Stirling. Join the M9 in the direction of Stirling, leaving the M9 at Junction 5, and following the A9 signposted for Falkirk and Polmont until you arrive in Polmont itself.

From Dundee (66 miles)

Your journey by car from Dundee to Polmont should take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes in light traffic.

Rather than crossing the Tay Bridge and heading into Fife, we recommend you head westbound out of Dundee on the A90, following the road all the way to Perth. At Perth, join the M90 southbound, following signs for the Forth Road Bridge and Edinburgh. Pass Kinross Service Area, and follow the M90 all the way until it becomes the A90, and cross the Forth Road Bridge, which is no longer a toll bridge. Turn left at the Echline Junction, following the A904 signposted for Bo’ness and Stirling, and then the B8046 signposted for Broxburn and Stirling. Join the M9 in the direction of Stirling, leaving the M9 at Junction 5, and following the A9 signposted for Falkirk and Polmont until you arrive in Polmont itself.

BY TRAIN

Polmont is well connected with the large cities, having a train station on the central belt mainline between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Some trains stop at Polmont, whilst some express trains pass through Polmont without stopping – these trains typically require that you change at Falkirk High, Linlithgow or Edinburgh Park. You should check timetables prior to travelling. Trains run from Glasgow Queen Street, Edinburgh Waverley, and Falkirk High. Trains are operated by Scotrail – Scotland’s Railway.



BY AIR

Edinburgh Airport is just 17 miles from Polmont, with air connections throughout the UK and to European destinations, including a couple of scheduled flights to Greenland and North America.

Glasgow Airport is 38 miles away from Polmont, with good UK and European air connections, as well as one or two scheduled flights with Iceland, North America and Asia.
